Senior Design Manager

Summary

As Design Manager in an large international project, including several global suppliers and contractors, you will play a key role in coordinating, planning and leading the design delivery. You will work closely with suppliers, contractors, and internal teams to support the overall goals of the project by ensuring the quality and consistency of the design solutions. Your ability to manage cultural and organizational differences, while driving and coordinating the design work, is critical to the project’s success.

Main tasks and responsibilities
Design

  • Develop and implement a design strategy that clarifies objectives.
  • Together with QA, Document control, Requirement Manager and Information Manager develop and manage the process for technical documents review.
  • Ensure that design processes and solutions are adapted to international standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Clarify who is responsible for reviewing which technical areas, as well as following up that comments are addressed and implemented, to meet time schedule and milestones.
  • Together with Interface Manager and Engineering Disciplines Leads, manage interfaces between disciplines and ensure required technical deliverables to meet the time schedule.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the overall strategy of the project by proposing innovative and sustainable design solutions.

Coordination and international cooperation

  • Coordinate design work across multiple countries and regions, taking into account local conditions and business goals.
  • Build strong relationships within the project but also with international suppliers and contractors to ensure coherence and high quality in design deliveries.
  • Simplify communication and collaboration between global and local teams to ensure that all parties are working towards common goals.
  • Take ultimate responsibility for planning all design work that takes place, develop a schedule, ensure that the right roles review and that suppliers/contractors implement changes that have been decided.
  • It is very important to ensure that the design packages delivered to the project are synchronized and to follow up that they are done according to the set time.

Quality assurance and standards

  • Ensure that design work complies with both locally set regulations and agreed methods and that deliveries of technical documentation are made on time and with the right quality.
  • Review and approve design solutions to ensure consistency and high quality across the project. Together with ”Information Lead”, introduce tools and methods that facilitate collaboration and quality assurance in a global environment.
  • When needed, participate in the Change Management Council.

Communication and cultural understanding

  • Be a central point of contact between international teams and the project’s management, with a focus on clear and effective communication.
  • Use your intercultural skills to build trust and ensure smooth working relationships between different parties.
  • Communicate design solutions and strategies to global and local stakeholders in a way that is tailored to their needs and perspectives.

Leadership and team development

  • Lead and develop an international design team with employees from different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Ensure that the team has the right resources and skills to meet the demands of the project.
  • Inspire and motivate your team by creating an inclusive and engaging work environment.

Other

  • Communication language is English
  • National and international travel occurs. Initially, Weekly or by weekly travels to Milano for 2-4 days per week.
  • Presents in the office 3 days per week but may differ during time.
  • The position is a full-time position.
